Oxidative and nitrative stress as a pathogenic factor in multiple sclerosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of central nervous system, which unknown etiology, but recent studies suggest important role of oxidative stress in its pathogenesis. The aim of our study was to analyze various markers of oxidative and nitrative damage, their mutual correlations and correlations with the state of the bloodbrain barrier (BBB) in multiple sclerosis patients. We also monitored the level of uric acid, an antioxidant.

Cannabidiol attenuates cardiac dysfunction, oxidative stress, fibrosis, and inflammatory and cell death signaling pathways in diabetic cardiomyopathy.
OBJECTIVES In this study, we have investigated the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on myocardial dysfunction, inflammation, oxidative/nitrative stress, cell death, and interrelated signaling pathways, using a mouse model of type I diabetic cardiomyopathy and primary human cardiomyocytes exposed to high glucose. BACKGROUND Cannabidiol, the most abundant nonpsychoactive constituent of Cannabis sat...
متن کاملCurcumin ameliorates oxidative stress in animal models of multiple sclerosis
Background & Objectives: The role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has been mentioned in previous studies. Curcumin is an active ingredient in Curcuma longa and has anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of curcumin on reducing the oxidative stress in the animal model of MS. Materials & Methods: In this study, experim...
متن کاملNitrative Stress and Tau Accumulation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Parkinsonism-Dementia Complex (ALS/PDC) in the Kii Peninsula, Japan
Objective: The Kii Peninsula of Japan is known to be a high incidence area of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/parkinsonism-dementia complex (Kii ALS/PDC) with tauopathy. Nitrative stress and oxidative stress on ALS/PDC and their relationship to tau pathology were clarified. Methods: Seven patients with Kii ALS/PDC (3 males and 4 females, average age 70.7 years, 3 with ALS, 2 with ALS with dementi...
متن کاملSevere oxidative stress in an acute inflammatory demyelinating model in the rhesus monkey
Oxidative stress is increasingly implicated as a co-factor of tissue injury in inflammatory/demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system (CNS), such as multiple sclerosis (MS). While rodent experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) models diverge from human demyelinating disorders with respect to limited oxidative injury, we observed that in a non-human primate (NHP) model for MS...
متن کاملEffects of Coenzyme Q10 on the ratio of TH1/TH2 in Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis Model of Multiple Sclerosis in C57BL/6
Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is known as a progressive central nervous system inflammatory disease. Certain factors, such as interleukins, inflammatory cells, and oxidative stress are supposed to involve in MS etiology. Because of the important role of oxidative stress, antioxidant therapy for MS has received more attention. Although coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) acts as an antioxidant, there is ...
